The presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Prince Adewole Adebayo, has declared that an SDP-led administration will dismantle the economic structure that forces ordinary Nigerians to fund the lavish lifestyles and opulence of public officeholders.

Speaking during a press conference held on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the SDP National Headquarters in Abuja, Adebayo decried the persistent economic hardships burdening citizens while government officials continue to spend public capital on personal comforts.

“We will stop Nigerians from subsidising the lavish lifestyles of politicians,” Adebayo said. “Successive budgets have systematically funnelled enormous public capital into executive comforts while millions of families deal with inflation, fuel duty increases, and crumbling social services. The hardship in this country stems not from a lack of resources, but from a criminal waste of our collective wealth.”

Citing fiscal reviews and mid-2026 budget implementation updates, Adebayo highlighted that nearly ₦1 trillion is spent annually at the federal level on luxury utility vehicles, presidential fleet upgrades, and state house renovations.

He added that mid-year financial disclosures revealed 33 state governments spent over ₦410 billion on governors’ offices and executive travel in just six months, reflecting a state-level lifestyle expenditure exceeding ₦1 trillion annually.

Adebayo vowed that under an SDP presidency, his administration would immediately scrap multi-billion naira allocations for bulletproof SUVs, ban private jet charters for public officials, and eliminate unconstitutional vehicle allowances.

He assured citizens that a transparent leadership could restructure public finances and redirect wasted capital toward education, healthcare, and infrastructure within four years.

Reaffirming the party’s platform, SDP National Publicity Secretary Rufus Aiyenigba emphasised that the party remains committed to an economic model centered on public welfare, domestic production, and fiscal transparency.

Adebayo concluded the briefing by urging civil society organisations and citizens to hold elected officials accountable and reject political leaders who treat public resources as personal funds.
