Interswitch has called for the development of adaptive financial infrastructure capable of supporting Nigeria’s evolving digital payment ecosystem and sustaining long-term economic growth.
The company’s Vice President, Business Innovation and Growth, Mr Tyoyila Aga, made the call at the TechConnect 6.0 conference held in Owerri on Friday.
The conference, themed “Built for What’s Next: Designing Adaptive Financial Infrastructure for a Dynamic Market,” brought together stakeholders from government, financial services, technology and business.
Aga said financial infrastructure must be designed to withstand economic shocks and market disruptions while maintaining security and promoting financial inclusion.
He identified interoperability, robust cybersecurity, sound data governance and consumer inclusion as critical elements for ensuring that financial systems remain relevant as digitisation expands across financial services, commerce and governance.
The Chairman of Imo Internal Revenue Service, Mr Justice Okoye, said connected and adaptive infrastructure was important for strengthening institutions, improving service delivery and expanding economic participation.
He identified taxpayer identity, technology, institutional frameworks, connectivity, data analysis and professional skills as six key pillars of effective revenue administration, while stressing the need for systems to withstand cyber threats and network failures.
The Imo Commissioner for Finance, Mr Chuck Chukwuemeka, said financial systems must move beyond traditional approaches focused solely on stability to address the demands of modern digital commerce.
He highlighted interoperability, data intelligence, cybersecurity resilience and human capital development, citing the state’s Treasury Single Account and Geographical Information System as examples of its transition towards a more connected financial framework.
