The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Buji Local Government Area of Jigawa State has wielded the disciplinary gavel, suspending its national chieftain and member of the National Working Committee (NWC), Hon. Aliyu Muhammad Tukur Gantsa, for 12 months over allegations of anti-party activities and conduct detrimental to the party’s unity.

The 12-month sanction, which formally took effect on Monday, October 19, 2026, followed a series of internal review meetings by local party organs. The disciplinary action was initially approved by the ADC Ward Executive Committee on October 5, 2026, before being ratified by the Buji Local Government Working Committee on October 16, 2026, in accordance with the provisions of the party’s constitution.

The decision was officially communicated during a press briefing held on Monday morning at the ADC Secretariat in Dutse, where party officials presented the joint resolution to newsmen.

Speaking on behalf of the local party executive, the ADC Ward Chairman for Gantsa Ward, Alh. Nasiru Garba Dan Halima, alongside Buji Local Government Chairman, Hon. Isyaku Muhammad Lelenkudu, and Gantsa Fada Yamma Polling Unit Chairman, Ahmad Garba, detailed the grievances leading to the suspension.

Party officials alleged that Hon. Gantsa engaged in public anti-party conduct by openly endorsing and campaigning for a aspirant who lost during the party’s primary elections, rather than supporting the officially nominated candidates. According to the executive leadership, these actions compromised party cohesion and undermined internal democracy ahead of upcoming electoral campaigns.

Under the terms of the disciplinary order originating from his base unit at Primary School, Gantsa Fada Yamma (Unit No. 17-05-04-002), Hon. Gantsa is prohibited from attending or participating in any ADC meetings, caucuses, rallies, or official functions at the polling unit, ward, local government, state, or national levels throughout the 12-month period. Additionally, he is barred from representing the party in any political, public, legal, or media engagements.

Addressing the media, Hon. Lelenkudu reaffirmed that the party remains open to due process, noting that Hon. Gantsa retains the right to lodge a formal appeal against the suspension with the Ward or Local Government Executive Committee within 14 days of receiving the notice.

In his reaction to the sanction, Hon. Aliyu Gantsa dismissed the suspension as an unconstitutional attempt by local actors to stifle dissenting voices within the party. Reaffirming his standing as a loyal, bona fide member of the ADC NWC, Gantsa indicated that he would challenge the resolution through the party’s higher appellate channels.
