The Osun State Police Command has issued a stern warning against any illegal invasion or forceful takeover of Local Government Secretariats and key public institutions across the state.

The Osun State Police Command issued the official warning on Monday, August 17, as fresh violence erupted at major motor parks in the state capital, Osogbo, following the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) declaration of Governor Ademola Adeleke as the winner of the Saturday governorship election.

Tensions flared early Sunday morning across several parts of Osogbo, particularly around the Olaiya Junction, Aje International Market, and the Old Garage motor parks. Eyewitnesses reported clashes between rival transport factions and political groups attempting to forcibly seize control of motor park management and local administrative structures.

Reacting to the unrest, the Osun State Police Command issued a statement from the state capital, warning political actors and transport union factions to refrain from acts capable of causing a complete breakdown of law and order.

”The Command will not tolerate any illegal attempt by any individual or group to forcibly occupy local government secretariats, public infrastructure, or transport parks under the guise of post-election celebrations or political dominance,” stated DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the Osun State Command.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Gotan, has ordered the immediate deployment of tactical operational units and heavy personnel to secure all 30 local government headquarters and strategic public facilities across the state.”

The Command confirmed that joint security patrols—comprising police officers, military personnel, and officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC)—have taken over major conflict points in Osogbo, including the Okefia, Rasco, and Station Road axes, to disperse violent groups and restore calm.

Meanwhile, the State Government through the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, Rtd. Brig.-Gen. Ademola Aderibigbe, urged residents to remain calm and law-abiding. He emphasized that Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration remains committed to safeguarding lives and public property throughout the post-election period.

Security agencies have advised members of the public to go about their lawful businesses without fear, asserting that anyone caught attempting to disrupt public peace or vandalize government property will be arrested and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
