The Kwankwasiyya Movement in Rivers State has thrown its weight behind the governorship ambition of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs, ahead of the 2027 Rivers State governorship election. The movement urged its members and members of the northern community in the state to support Lulu-Briggs in his bid to become governor.
The endorsement was made when the movement hosted the NDC’s Vice-Presidential Candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, in Port Harcourt during a political engagement attended by party leaders, candidates, supporters and members of allied movements. Lulu-Briggs received Kwankwaso at the gathering alongside his running mate, Dr Mike Nwielaghi, members of the party’s state executive and other candidates.
The meeting also attracted members of the OK Movement and other political supporters, providing an opportunity for discussions on the political future of Nigeria and Rivers State. Welcoming Kwankwaso, Lulu-Briggs described the visit as significant to the NDC and its growing coalition in the state, stressing the importance of unity, purposeful leadership and collective commitment to addressing the challenges facing Nigerians.
Kwankwaso, in his address, urged Nigerians not to lose faith in the country’s ability to overcome its difficulties. He said meaningful progress could be achieved when citizens united around purposeful leadership and shared values, while also calling on members of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, the northern community and other residents of Rivers State to attend the ‘Obi Talks Nigeria: The Port Harcourt TownHall’ scheduled to hold on Thursday, September 3, 2026.
The NDC Vice-Presidential Candidate specifically urged the Kwankwasiyya Movement and the northern community in Rivers State to support Lulu-Briggs ahead of the 2027 election. The appeal was reportedly met with enthusiasm from those present, with participants expressing renewed commitment to political engagement and efforts to build broader support for the NDC candidate as the state prepares for the governorship poll.
