Convener of Northeast Unity Forum (NUF), Abubakar Kabir, has faulted the threat by the FCT Minister and former Governor of Rivers State, Mr. Nyesom Wike, to ‘put fire’ in States run by Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who are backing Governor Sim Fubara, in the lingering face-off between him and Mr. Wike, the Governor’s estranged political godfather.
In his riposte to Wike in a statement issue earlier today (Tuesday, September 3), Kabir said: “Similarly, the PDP leadership must act decisively and restore discipline and order within their party. Through this, the party will uphold the principles of democracy, unity, and loyalty, which are the bedrock of any political system.
“It is entirely justifiable to tame Wike’s political remarks after he has exposed himself as a self-serving politician struggling to foment chaos to reclaim his relevance.
Daily Query reports that less than four months after Governor Fubara came to power in May last year, he and Wike had already locked horns over leadership of the Rivers State House of Assembly and the ruling PDP.
While addressing his supporters in Rivers State, last week, Wike was quoted as insisting that he remains the leader of the party in the State, adding that he was not scared of the decisions of some Governors to collapse his political structure.
But Kabir rejected the notion that Wike’s leadership of Rivers PDP is sacrosanct, urging the PDP to act decisively to restore order and discipline within its fold as the irreducible minimum needed to move the party forward.
“Nigeria’s democracy depends on our collective ability to reject such individuals and uphold the principles of justice, respect, restraint and integrity without giving chance to characters that are charlatans,” the North East Unity Forum’s leader declared.
