The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Federal Operations Unit (FOU), Zone A, has initiated high-level familiarization visits to sister security agencies, advocating for strengthened operational synergies and intelligence sharing to curb smuggling and trans-border security threats across Lagos and neighboring states.
The strategic engagements began on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, when the newly appointed Acting Comptroller of FOU Zone A, Oladipo Afeni, led a delegation on courtesy visits to key security partners, including the Lagos State Police Command headquarters.
According to a formal statement released by CSC Hussaini Abdullahi on Friday, October 16, 2026, the visits form part of a broader drive under the leadership of Acting Area Controller Oladipo Afeni to advance collaborative enforcement.
The primary aim is to protect national security, bolster revenue collection, facilitate legitimate trade, and safeguard Nigeria’s economic stability.
During discussions with state security chiefs, Acting Controller Oladipo Afeni emphasized that effective combat against sophisticated smuggling rings requires direct inter-agency communication channels, operational intelligence sharing, and unified tactical responses.
”In Lagos, we maintain a strong and robust relationship with all security agencies, notwithstanding the huge population of the state. Sustaining this synergy is vital for national stability, economic protection, and border security.” says Acting CAC Oladipo Afeni.
The initiative aligns with the strategic pillar set by the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, which focuses on Consolidation, Innovation, and Collaboration.
By solidifying working relations with the Nigeria Police Force and other security formations across the South-West region, FOU Zone A aims to build an impenetrable network against trans-border illegalities, illicit drug trade, arms trafficking, and economic sabotage.
