The Rivers State Police Command has queried and relieved the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of the Abuloma Division alongside the Divisional Officer (DO) overseeing the Abuloma outpost of their duties following widespread public outrage over a viral video showing suspected cultists renovating and celebrating inside the police facility.
The disciplinary action was officially announced on Friday, October 16, 2026, after footage surfaced online on Thursday, October 15, 2026. The viral clip showed individuals, suspected to be members of the Supreme Vikings Confraternity wearing red fez caps, black berets, white shirts, and black trousers, celebrating the completion of the renovation alongside serving officers at the police post. October 15 is widely recognized as the annual anniversary date for the group.
In an official statement released in Port Harcourt, command spokespersons SP Grace Iringe-Koko and Blessing Agabe (Agabe Kaborlo) confirmed that both senior officers were immediately relieved of their duties pending the outcome of a full administrative panel.
”The Command strongly condemns any action or association capable of compromising the integrity, discipline, and professional standards of the Nigeria Police Force or conferring legitimacy, recognition, or acceptance on suspected cult groups or other unlawful organizations,” the police statement read. “Police facilities are public institutions established for the protection of citizens and the enforcement of law; they must never become platforms through which criminal groups seek public validation or influence.”
Addressing questions regarding public assistance for law enforcement infrastructure, the command acknowledged that Section 26(1)(d) of the Nigeria Police Act 2020 allows voluntary public support, but stressed that such contributions must follow statutory protocols and never compromise operational independence or security standards.
The Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Command, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the incident. Identifying the exact individuals who funded and executed the project, and establishing whether administrative clearance and background checks were conducted prior to work commencing.
Determining whether officers at the outpost compromised professional standards or maintained improper dealings with criminal elements. Assessing liability for both police personnel and civilian actors involved, with assurances that appropriate legal and internal disciplinary actions will follow.
The police leadership reaffirmed that accepting contributions or facility upgrades grants no individual or group immunity from criminal prosecution, reassuring the public that those found culpable will face severe sanction.
