Community leaders in Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta State have moved to reassure local merchants and residents, specifically members of the Igbo business community following a wave of night burglaries that have hit the Bomadi-Overside commercial hub.
Speaking on Saturday, July 25, 2026, the Chairman of Bomadi Urban Community, Mr. Famous Ebiare, condemned the recurring criminal incidents and outlined immediate security interventions aimed at restoring safety and protecting local businesses.
The intervention follows a series of break-ins targeting commercial shops in the riverine hub. Local business owner Mr. Emmanuel Okoro recently voiced frustration after his elder brother, Mr. Chidi Okoro, had his phone and accessories store burglarized for the third time while away on a business trip, resulting in millions of naira in lost inventory.
Because Bomadi-Overside serves as a primary trading hub for multiple surrounding riverine communities, local leaders emphasized that safeguarding commerce in the area is critical for the regional economy.
In response to the growing outrage from traders, community executives convened to roll out concrete countermeasures. Mr. Ebiare will officially present the security situation to the Bomadi Local Government Security Council.
The community leadership proposes setting up fixed vigilante security checkpoints throughout the Bomadi-Overside market district. Security efforts will be synchronized with the Bomadi Police Station to apprehend suspects and prevent future break-ins.
”We sympathize with those whose shops have been burgled. As a community, we have resolved to take decisive steps to address the situation,” Ebiare stated.
Addressing recent public misunderstandings, Mr. Ebiare clarified that the commercial district is officially designated as Bomadi-Overside, rejecting references to the area as “Esenaebe.” He confirmed Mr. Wareka-emi Osuobeni as the duly elected chairman of the area, reassuring business owners of a unified community administration dedicated to protecting lives and investments.
