Foreign Affairs Ministry announces readiness to commemorate Nigeria-Mexico@50 relations

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Nigeria and the United Mexican States.

The spokesperson of the ministry, Kimiebi Ebienfa, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja.

According to him, the Nigeria-Mexico relations which was established on April 14, 1976, has evolved into a stable and mutually beneficial partnership

The diplomatic relations between them was founded on respect for sovereignty, non-interference in internal affairs, and shared commitment to international peace and development.

“Both countries have sustained cordial engagement at bilateral and multilateral levels, including within the UN system, where they have consistently aligned on key global issues.

“Bilateral cooperation between the two countries has progressively expanded across priority sectors, such as trade and investment, energy, agriculture, education, culture, and technical exchange.

“In recent years, renewed emphasis has been placed on enhancing economic diplomacy through increased private-sector participation, diversification of trade, and exploration of opportunities in emerging areas, including renewable energy and industrial development,” Ebienfa said.

According to him, the government of Nigeria notes with satisfaction the steady growth in engagement between both countries and acknowledged the vital role of diplomatic dialogue, institutional cooperation, and people-to-people exchanges in consolidating this partnership.

“These interactions continue to reflect the shared aspirations of both nations for inclusive growth, sustainable development, and enhanced South-South cooperation.”

He affirmed the ministry’s commitment to deepening bilateral relations through high-level engagements, strengthened institutional frameworks, and strategic cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

He commended Nigeria and Mexico’s historic milestone, saying the next phase of the relationship between the two countries will yield even greater dividends.
