In a major move aimed at strengthening national security intelligence and safeguarding commercial operations, Nigerian technology firm Wahala App Ltd has officially entered into a strategic partnership with the General Leo Irabor Early Warning Systems Centre (GLIC), an arm of the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA).
The collaboration will leverage artificial intelligence and real-time data analytics to enhance threat monitoring, operational risk management, and business continuity across the country. The landmark agreement was formally announced on Thursday, October 22, 2026, during a joint press briefing held at the NIIA Complex along Kofo Abayomi Road in Victoria Island, Lagos.
Under the terms of the alliance, the NIIA’s Early Warning Systems Centre will integrate the Wahala Network, a proprietary digital engine that aggregates citizen-generated incident reports, localised crisis alerts, and operational data.
By combining crowdsourced civic data with advanced machine learning algorithms, researchers and analysts at GLIC will be better equipped to identify emerging security patterns, evaluate supply chain vulnerabilities, and predict operational disruptions before they fully manifest.
Speaking at the ceremony, Oriekaose Agholor, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Wahala App Ltd, emphasized that safety remains a collective responsibility requiring seamless collaboration between civic tech innovators and research institutions.
He noted that by connecting citizen-generated incident reports with institutional early warning capabilities, the partnership expands access to real-time risk intelligence, enabling corporate entities to make informed decisions that protect personnel, logistics, and critical infrastructure.
Echoing these sentiments, Prof. Eghosa Osaghae, Director-General of the NIIA, highlighted the broader strategic value of the initiative. He explained that the core mission of the General Leo Irabor Centre is to build Nigeria’s capacity to anticipate, prevent, and mitigate security threats.
By incorporating Wahala App’s AI-driven analytical tools, GLIC analysts gain proactive capabilities that directly assist policymakers, regional stakeholders, and private sector operators in responding to dynamic security environments. Both institutions clarified that the data-driven initiative is designed to complement existing statutory security agencies and emergency services, rather than replace them.
By providing automated, geo-targeted alerts, the joint platform aims to offer actionable insights that help enterprises adjust transport routes, maintain supply chain integrity, and build long-term operational resilience.
