Members of the Rivers State House of Assembly on Saturday presented a brand new car to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, as part of their Christmas celebrations in Port Harcourt.
The lawmakers described the gesture as a symbol of appreciation for Wike’s leadership style and enduring relationship with the legislature, assuring him of their continued support in the years ahead.
The presentation was made by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Martins Amaewhule, during a brief ceremony held in the Rivers State capital.
Amaewhule, while handing over the keys of the vehicle, said the gift was from members of the Assembly, their spouses and families as a Christmas token for 2025.
“As part of Christmas, as part of the celebration, we brought a little token to mark this Christmas for the year 2025,” the Speaker said.
He urged the former Rivers State governor to continue to regard members of the House as his “other children” who reside at the Rivers State House of Assembly quarters.
Amaewhule said the lawmakers deeply appreciated Wike’s leadership and the sustained relationship between the executive and legislative arms during his tenure as governor.
According to him, the Assembly looks forward to strengthening that bond as Wike continues to play key roles in national governance.
“By 2026, we will be waiting for you, and hopefully our wives will save more money to buy a better gift,” the Speaker added, drawing light laughter from those present.
He formally announced the gift, saying, “On behalf of members, on behalf of our spouses and children, we present to you the keys to a Toyota 2025 Camry.”
Amaewhule acknowledged that Wike already owns several vehicles but said the lawmakers felt compelled to make the presentation as a show of gratitude.
“We know that you have plenty already, but just add this one to the ones you already have,” he said.
The brief ceremony ended with goodwill messages and Christmas greetings exchanged between the minister and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
