Gov Bassey Otu, Chief Arthur Eze, Ekaette Akpabio also listed for honors
In what is a practical demonstration of the saying that one man’s poison may be another’s meat, controversial Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and the enfant terrible of Rivers State politics, Nyesom Wike is  scheduled to be awarded an honorary degree in Political Science by the University of Calabar.
The university’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Florence Obi disclosed this during a briefing to mark the commencement of activities to mark the 37 convocation ceremony.
Professor Obi disclosed that besides Nyesom Wike, the Governor of Cross River State Senator Bassey Otu, an alumnus of the institution will also earn an honorary degree in Political Science by the institution.
Other awardees listed by the institution include wife of the Senate president, Ekaette Unoma Akpabio who will earn an honorary degree in educational management while Business mogul, Prince Arthur Eze will earn an honorary degree in business management.
Major General Moses Obi (Rtd) will also earn an honorary degree of the institution in Peace Studies.
Professor Obi also disclosed that 13, 610Â graduates will earn various degrees during the 37th Convocation.
Giving a breakdown, she said “Diplomas students are 181 in number, First Degrees 11,725, Masters Degrees 876, PhD 572, PGD 249 and Postdoctoral Diploma in Education 7.
“Further breakdown shows 66 First Class, 3,054 Second Class Upper Division, 7,450 Second Class Lower Division, 925 Third Class and 7 Pass”, Professor Obi said.
This year’s convocation also coincides with the university’s 50th anniversary celebrations, which has a theme: “50 years of impactful knowledge and service to humanity”.
