The Enugu State Police Command has reported remarkable strides in crime-fighting for 2024, including the arrest of over 1,000 suspects linked to various criminal activities and the successful rescue of 100 victims of kidnapping and abduction.
In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, on Wednesday – today, January 1, 2025 – the Commissioner of Police, Kanayo Uzuegbu, expressed gratitude to the people of Enugu State for their support for the police.
“Throughout 2024, the Command arrested over 130 armed robbery suspects, 100 individuals involved in kidnapping or abduction, 55 murder suspects, and 111 suspects charged with unlawful possession of firearms.
“In addition, 226 suspected cultists and 450 individuals linked to crimes such as burglary, theft, and fraud were also apprehended
“We recovered over 200 firearms, including 21 AK-47 rifles, one submachine gun, and one G-3 rifle, as well as 1,863 rounds of live ammunition. Additionally, 124 vehicles, comprising motorcycles, tricycles, and cars, were seized from suspects,” he stated.
Reflecting on these achievements, Uzuegbu attributed the successes to a collaborative effort between the police, citizens, and other security stakeholders.
“Our accomplishments this year would not have been possible without the unwavering support of the good people of Enugu State. Your credible and actionable information played a critical role in shaping our operations and outcomes,” he said.
Uzuegbu further lauded the efforts of local security partners, including the Neighbourhood Watch Group, Forest Guards, vigilantes, and hunters, as well as the personnel of the Command for their resilience and bravery.
The Commissioner paid tribute to officers who lost their lives in the line of duty, describing their sacrifices as heroic.
He also expressed his profound gratitude to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun and the Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah, for their unwavering support adding that the guidance of the IGP and the material and moral support from the Governor have been instrumental in our operations.
Looking forward to 2025, the CP reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to maintaining peace and security through a proactive, community-driven approach.
“We are determined to deliver a more professional, robust, and results-oriented policing model this year. I urge all citizens to remain vigilant, law-abiding, and continue to support the police and other security agencies. Together, we can create a safer and more secure environment for all,” he said.
