Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has declared his full support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, describing himself as the “Lion of the South-East” and asserting that the region stands to gain the most by backing the current administration.

Speaking on Sunday, November 1, 2026, during an address to political leaders, religious figures, and community stakeholders in Abakaliki, Senator Umahi highlighted President Tinubu’s administration as a pivotal turning point for the geopolitical zone.

He emphasized key structural developments, including improved ease of business for South-East merchants, nationwide road infrastructure revivals, and significant federal appointments for Igbo leaders.

Addressing the gathering, Umahi called for strategic political alignment over sentiment. “Today, our people in commerce clear our goods with ease,” Umahi stated. “Today, our roads are being revived on the path of economic activities. Today, we can boldly say we have been integrated. Who is better than the Lion of the South-East, myself? The South-East must build strategic political alliances across the country rather than rely on sentiment.”

The gathering featured key remarks from several prominent figures, including Ebonyi State Governor Francis Nwifuru, who echoed the Minister’s sentiments and urged the South-East electorate to align with the ruling party to secure long-term political leverage and economic integration.

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, also commended federal infrastructure initiatives and political inclusion as tangible proof of President Tinubu’s commitment to the region.

During the event, Senator Umahi pledged that Ebonyi State would deliver 1.3 million of its 1.8 million registered votes for President Tinubu and Governor Nwifuru in the 2027 general elections.

He called on religious leaders and traditional rulers to guide the populace toward strategic political choices, maintaining that full federal integration remains the most viable path to securing future presidency prospects for the South-East.
