The African Democratic Congress Presidential Campaign Council (ADC-PCC) has raised an alarm over what it termed a coordinated campaign of harassment, violence, and state-sponsored suppression directed by President Bola Tinubu’s administration against opposition political parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In an official statement released on Sunday afternoon, November 1, 2026, in Abuja, the ADC-PCC warned that no ruling government can crush the democratic aspirations of the Nigerian electorate through state power and political intimidation.

The press statement, signed by the Director of Media and Publicity for the ADC-PCC, Kola Ologbondiyan, outlined a growing pattern of state-level hostility and political intolerance directed against opposition figures by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to the council, evidence of this systematic suppression includes recent violent disruptions targeting ADC leaders during grassroots mobilisation drives in Kaduna State, as well as the physical assault of the party’s Sokoto governorship candidate, Alhaji Munir Dan Iya, by operatives of the Sokoto Marshals along Airport Road in Sokoto.

The council further highlighted the reported demolition of the ADC governorship campaign headquarters in Kebbi State, alongside the administrative denial of venue access to opposition figures, including Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi, during planned events in Enugu State.

Beyond structural attacks, the campaign council expressed severe concern over the continued unlawful detention and denial of bail for former Kaduna State Governor and current ADC Vice Chairman, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, describing his predicament as a politically motivated attempt to neutralise key strategists.

The council also noted recent physical attacks targeting African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore and other dissenting voices across the country.

”These are calculated atrocious actions skewed to scare Nigerians ahead of the general elections,” Ologbondiyan stated. “The incidents unfolding across the country go beyond ordinary political rivalry; they represent a dangerous pattern aimed at stripping opposition parties of their constitutional right to association and free political expression.”

Drawing historical parallels, the ADC-PCC recalled the collapse of former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s third-term agenda, asserting that citizens will actively resist any attempt by the APC to impose a one-party state upon the electorate.

The council urged President Tinubu to remember that he and his party benefited directly from opposition freedoms prior to taking power in 2023, demanding that those same democratic rights be protected for all political participants today.
