President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the reconstitution of the leadership of the Surveyors Council of Nigeria (SURCON), appointing Surveyor Moshood Onifade Akinwande as the regulatory body’s new President.
​The President also approved the appointment of the Surveyor-General of Oyo State, Surveyor Olusoji Adeoye, and a former Oyo State Chairman of the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors (NIS), Surveyor Olaribigbe Shiyanbola, as council members representing Oyo State.
​The directive was officially communicated via an appointment letter issued on Sunday, July 19, 2026, by Ibrahim Abubakar, the Permanent Secretary of the General Services Office, on behalf of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume.
​The new appointments bring a wealth of administrative and technical expertise to the council. Surveyor Moshood Akinwande (President); Hailing from the Molete Compound in Oyo Town, Akinwande is a retired Director of Research, Planning, and Documentation from the Office of the Surveyor-General of the Federation (OSGOF), where he stepped down in 2018.
Surveyor Olusoji Adeoye (Member), joins the council in his capacity as the substantive Surveyor-General of Oyo State, ensuring a direct administrative link between the state and federal regulatory frameworks.
Surveyor Olaribigbe Shiyanbola (Member), a native of Ipapo in the Itesiwaju Local Government Area, Shiyanbola is a seasoned professional who previously served as Secretary of the NIS Board of Fellows.
​The newly appointed executive and council members are expected to assume their roles immediately following an official swearing-in ceremony scheduled for this week.
​The Inauguration is Schedule: to take place on Tuesday, July 21, 2026 at the SGF’s Hall, Shehu Shagari Complex, Three Arms Zone, Abuja and hosted by Senator George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
​The SURCON council is a multi-stakeholder body comprising representatives from the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors across the 36 states, academic institutions, and the Nigerian Armed Forces, all tasked with regulating surveying standards and registration in Nigeria.
