The Chairperson of the Civil Defence Officers Wives Association, CDOWA in the Federal Capital Territory FCT, Mrs. Bolanle Odumosu, has emphasized the importance of stable income and a peaceful home environment for security personnel as essential factors for a dedicated security force and a crime-free society.
She made this known in Abuja during a Skill Acquisition and Empowerment Training Programme organized for members of CDOWA, widows, and female officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC.
Mrs. Odumosu described the training initiative as a “movement of empowerment, growth, and opportunities,” aimed at enhancing the economic stability of participants by equipping them with relevant income-generating skills.
She noted that economically empowering the spouses of security officers would go a long way in boosting the morale of officers in active service, enabling them to give their best in the fight against insecurity.
“As wives of officers, we understand the challenges and sacrifices that come with this noble profession. Our spouses dedicate their lives to keeping us safe, often putting themselves in harm’s way. As their partners, we play a vital role in supporting them and our families,” she said.
Also speaking at the event, the Secretary of the FCT Women Secretariat, Dr. Adedayo Benjamin, reaffirmed the FCT Administration’s commitment to the empowerment of all women, especially the vulnerable and those in rural communities.
She cited notable successes in empowering women in agriculture, many of whom have become thriving entrepreneurs.
The FCT Commandant of the NSCDC, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, commended the initiative, describing it as laudable.
He assured that the command would continue to provide all necessary support to CDOWA to ensure the sustainability of the programme.
One of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Adeokun Folashade, a widow trained in soap-making, expressed gratitude for the opportunity, describing it as life-saving.
She explained that with the skills and support received, she can now provide for her three children following the death of her husband, who was an officer of the NSCDC.
The beneficiaries, who received training in soap-making, marketing, and networking, were also presented with starter packs to help kick-start their businesses
