The Senator representing Abia Central Senatorial District, Austin Akobundu, has declared that the South East geopolitical zone stands to gain significantly if former Vice President Atiku Abubakar emerges victorious in the next presidential election. Akobundu made the remarks while addressing supporters and political stakeholders, where he expressed optimism about the political future of the country under the leadership of the former Vice President.
The senator also commended the growing support being shown to Atiku across different parts of the country, describing it as a reflection of the confidence Nigerians have in his leadership abilities and vision for national transformation. According to him, the warm reception and increasing support from the people demonstrate the level of trust and belief many Nigerians have in the political direction being championed by Atiku and his allies ahead of the next general election.
Akobundu noted that the South East would experience improved inclusion, economic growth, and infrastructural development under an Atiku-led administration, stressing that the former Vice President possesses the experience and national outlook needed to address Nigeria’s numerous challenges. “The South East has a lot to gain from an Atiku presidency because he understands the importance of national unity, equity, and inclusive governance,” the senator said.
He described Atiku as one of the most experienced politicians in Nigeria, with decades of active involvement in governance, public administration, and economic policy formulation. According to Akobundu, Nigeria currently requires a leader with practical experience, political maturity, and the ability to unite the country across ethnic, religious, and regional lines.
He maintained that Atiku’s understanding of governance and economic management places him in a strong position to tackle pressing national issues such as insecurity, unemployment, inflation, and declining investor confidence. The lawmaker further stated that the former Vice President has consistently demonstrated a deep understanding of Nigeria’s diversity and the need for balanced development across all regions of the federation.
He added that Atiku’s leadership style and political experience would help restore stability and confidence in governance while creating opportunities for economic expansion and national reconciliation. Akobundu also urged Nigerians to look beyond sentiments and support leaders with proven capacity and competence, noting that the country is at a critical stage where experience and vision are urgently needed.
He expressed confidence that Nigerians would make the right decision when the time comes, insisting that the former Vice President remains well prepared to provide purposeful leadership and reposition the nation for sustainable development.
The senator further praised party loyalists and supporters for their commitment and dedication, saying the level of mobilisation and enthusiasm being witnessed across the country indicates growing momentum ahead of future political engagements.
He encouraged supporters to remain peaceful, united, and focused on promoting issues capable of strengthening democracy, improving governance, and advancing national development.
Akobundu’s remarks come amid ongoing political consultations and alignments among major political actors ahead of the next electoral cycle, with discussions already intensifying over possible presidential contenders and regional interests.
