The Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, has firmly debunked reports suggesting a rift or strained relationship between him and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, describing the former Rivers State governor as a progressive politician within the same political family.
Addressing journalists at a media briefing on Wednesday afternoon, October 7, 2026, at the Ministry of Works Headquarters in Mabushi, Abuja, Umahi clarified that allegations of internal friction or disputes over political coalitions were unfounded speculations exaggerated by political opponents.
Umahi emphasised that both ministers share a unified focus under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s cabinet and continue to maintain strong personal and professional ties.
”There is no political feud between us. Nyesom Wike is a progressive politician, and we belong to the same political family,” Umahi stated. “We need Wike just as Wike needs us. Political opponents are only trying to magnify minor issues to create narratives of division, but our relationship remains solid.”
The Works Minister urged observers and media outlets to focus on cabinet achievements and ongoing infrastructure projects rather than political rumors intended to distract the administration.
During the briefing, Umahi highlighted the administration’s nationwide infrastructure drive, assuring the public that work is progressing rapidly across all regions.
The Ministry inherited 2,068 ongoing road projects nationwide valued at roughly ₦13 trillion.
Progress on critical arterial routes continues, including the first 119-kilometer section of the Abuja–Kaduna–Zaria–Kano dual carriageway and ongoing work on the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway.
Reaffirming alignment among key cabinet officials, Umahi insisted that the administration remains focused on national development rather than internal power struggles.
