Senator Ali Ndume, who represents the Borno South Senatorial District in the National Assembly, has called on President Bola Tinubu to address the ongoing hardships faced by citizens before the situation escalates further.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Friday, Ndume accused certain individuals close to the president of promoting detrimental reforms and policies designed to undermine his administration. He expressed concern, stating, “Those intent on tarnishing the president’s reputation will stop at nothing to inflict suffering on Nigerians through these so-called reforms, risking a situation where the blame will ultimately fall on President Tinubu.”
Ndume highlighted the urgent need for the Tinubu administration to tackle the challenges posed by hyperinflation, which has been exacerbated by constant increases in the prices of essential goods and services.
He urged, “I appeal to him (Tinubu) to resist the influence of these harmful individuals who seek to incite discontent among the populace.”
Describing the severity of the situation, he stated, “The hardships being imposed on Nigerians are becoming unbearable. I am currently in Borno and can personally attest to the suffering, hunger, frustration, and anger that people are experiencing.”
The senator emphasized that many families in Borno are unable to provide basic necessities for themselves, and he described the impact of the continuous price hikes as unimaginable.
“Farmers struggle to transport their goods due to exorbitant transportation costs. This is why I implore him (Tinubu) to take action before it’s too late. Testing the patience of Nigerians is dangerous, and that’s precisely what these misguided advisers are doing,” Ndume added.
Ndume concluded by urging the president to urgently address these pressing issues upon his return to Nigeria, emphasizing, “The purchasing power of Nigerians has dwindled to a critical low, making it increasingly difficult for them to afford the rising costs imposed by those undermining the state.”
