Operatives of the Seme Area Command, Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), have intercepted a major shipment of dangerous contraband, including 3,300 explosive cartridges, tons of decomposing noodles, illicit drugs, foreign rice, and smuggled vehicles with a total Duty Paid Value (DPV) of ₦365.16 million.
Unveiling the seizures during a press conference on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at the Command Headquarters in Seme, Lagos State, the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Abdullahi Shuaibu Kaila, detailed how coordinated intelligence led to the interception of the illicit items across unapproved border corridors.
”This operation underscores our total commitment to national security and economic protection. Seme Command will continue to deny economic saboteurs and criminal networks any room to operate,” Comptroller Kaila stated.
The sum of 3,300 Explosive Cartridges, originating from Ghana, these hazardous materials were intercepted along the Seme corridor. Comptroller Kaila noted that preventing these explosives from entering the country neutralized severe potential threats involving terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping. Two suspects were apprehended at the scene.
Customs officers intercepted a commercial truck falsely declared as carrying general foodstuffs, revealing spoiled and decomposing noodles,1,306 Sacks of Expired Noodles (50kg each). Intelligence reports revealed that smugglers planned to rebag, relabel, and sell the dangerous items to unsuspecting consumers in Nigerian markets.
Operatives confiscated 373 parcels of Cannabis Sativa, 90 packs of Tramaking (250mg), 69 packs of Royal Tapentadol (250mg), and 310,000 sticks of smuggled Time/Yes cigarettes.
To facilitate prosecution and safe disposal, Comptroller Kaila announced the formal transfer of the seized property to relevant government agencies. The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) will Handle the decomposing noodles and unregistered items to ensure public health safety and proper disposal.
Highlighting enforcement efficiency alongside trade facilitation, Comptroller Kaila reported that the Seme Area Command collected ₦19.84 billion between January and July 2026. This total represents a 24.45% increase compared to the ₦15.94 billion generated during the entire 12-month period of 2025.
