The Osun State Police Command has officially summoned Senator Francis Fadahunsi, the lawmaker representing Osun East Senatorial District, following a viral video in which he allegedly directed All Progressives Congress (APC) supporters to “kill” members of the rival Accord Party ahead of the state’s August 15 governorship election.
In an official invitation letter dated August 11, 2026, signed by Samuel Etaifo Erale, the Commissioner of Police (Elections) for Osun State, the lawmaker was directed to appear before investigators at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Osogbo at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, August 12, 2026.
The controversy stems from a viral video recorded on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, during a protest led by APC chieftains to the palace of the Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, Owa Adesuyi Haastrup, in Ilesa. The demonstration followed violent clashes in the area on Monday evening that left three people dead.
Addressing party supporters in Yoruba at the palace, Senator Fadahunsi explicitly threatened opposition figures, declaring:
”If we hear about any Accord member in Ilesa, we will kill him.”
The statement, which the lawmaker invited attendees to record and broadcast online, triggered widespread public outrage and heightened fears of electoral violence across the state. The police invitation noted that the summons was based on intelligence indicating that the lawmaker’s remarks were “threatening, inciting, and intimidating in nature.”
Speaking on the development on Wednesday morning, August 12, representatives of the Osun State Police Command confirmed that the SCID is conducting a full investigation to ascertain the motives behind the broadcast and evaluate security risks ahead of Saturday’s vote. Authorities reiterated a zero-tolerance policy for hate speech, political thuggery, and violence throughout the election period.
Following public backlash and police intervention, Senator Fadahunsi issued a clarification through his media office on Tuesday evening titled “Kill Osun Accord with Votes, Not Violence.” Speaking on a live broadcast with Channels Television, the lawmaker maintained that his comments were taken out of context:
Fadahunsi insisted the phrase was “purely political and metaphorical,” intended to urge APC faithful to defeat the Accord Party at the ballot box rather than engage in physical violence.
He emphasized that members of the Accord Party, PDP, and APC are all his constituents, claiming his outburst was driven by frustration over the recent wave of violent attacks against APC members in Ilesaland.
Security agencies have since deployed additional personnel across Ilesa, Osogbo, and surrounding local government areas to preserve order leading into Saturday’s governorship poll.
