Carlo Ancelotti who was officially appointed as the head coach of Brazil’s national football team just recently, marking a historic moment as he becomes the first full-time foreign manager of the Seleção in over a century, immediately set his sights on the 2026 World Cup, stating, “I have a big job ahead of me. I’m delighted; the challenge is great. I’ve always had a special connection with this team. We’re going to work to make Brazil champions again.”
Ancelotti’s immediate focus is on Brazil’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers, with matches scheduled against Ecuador on June 5 and Paraguay on June 10. Brazil currently sits fourth in the South American qualifying standings, with the top six teams securing automatic spots for the 2026 World Cup, to be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
In his first squad selection, Ancelotti has recalled midfielder Casemiro, who captained Brazil during the 2022 World Cup but had been absent from the national team for about a year. Notably, Neymar was not included in the squad as he continues his recovery from injury, though Ancelotti has indicated he remains part of future plans.
“Bringing Carlo Ancelotti to coach Brazil is more than a strategic movement. It is a statement to the world that we are determined to recover the top of the podium.” The Brazilian Football Federation President, Ednaldo Rodrigues, said.
