Former Anambra State governor and presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has issued a direct political challenge to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging him to travel across the remaining 33 states of the federation after his recent overnight stay in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

Speaking in a statement issued on Saturday, November 7, 2026, Obi noted that after President Tinubu enjoyed the hospitality of Akwa Ibom State, a rare domestic trip outside Lagos and Abuja, he should extend similar visits to every geopolitical zone to experience the economic reality confronting ordinary Nigerians.

He observed that the President has spent over 260 days on foreign trips since taking office, adding that executive travels within the country would offer a clearer assessment of the nation’s socio-economic conditions.

Obi insisted that presidential visits should serve as platforms for transparency rather than political rhetoric. He demanded that the administration account for public funds, specifically asking for a clear record of how the ₦15.8 trillion saved from the removal of the petrol subsidy, alongside over $100 billion in public borrowing and increased tax revenues, has been utilized to improve citizens’ welfare.

Expanding on key indicators of governance, Obi called for verifiable data on the number of Nigerians who have been lifted out of poverty since May 2023, the number of out-of-school children returned to classrooms, and the exact count of functional primary healthcare centers constructed or rehabilitated nationwide.

Turning to infrastructure and security, he questioned the progress made in stabilising the national grid, reminding the President of his earlier pledge that Nigerians should judge his performance on electricity delivery, and urged the government to demonstrate concrete outcomes in securing agricultural communities against terrorism, banditry, and violent crime.

Obi concluded by emphasizing that any meaningful national progress must be anchored on physical, measurable impacts of public resources on the daily lives of citizens.
