Manchester United have officially signed Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers in a deal worth £62.5 million. The 26-year-old has agreed to a five-year contract with an optional one-year extension, positioning him as one of the club’s top earners at £200,000 per week, alongside Antony. This salary places him behind Casemiro (£375,000/week), Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford (both £325,000/week), and Mason Mount (£250,000/week).
Cunha’s arrival marks a significant move in Manchester United’s summer transfer activities. The Brazilian forward had an impressive season with Wolves, contributing 12 goals and seven assists in the Premier League. His versatility in attacking positions is expected to bolster United’s offensive options.
The transfer comes amid a period of transition for Manchester United, following a disastrous 2024 – 25 season with the club finishing 15th in the Premier League – their worst league campaign since 1973–74 – recording just 11 wins and scoring only 44 goals. In response to the disappointing performances, the club has also reportedly asked goalkeeper André Onana to leave, as they look to rebuild and address key weaknesses in the squad.
