The Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Adm. Ibok-Ete Ibas, has urged National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members serving in the state to make meaningful contributions to their host communities.
Ibas gave the charge on Tuesday during the closing ceremony of the 2025 Batch B Stream I orientation exercise at the NYSC Camp in Nonwa-Gbam, Tai Local Government Area.
He was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Ibibia Worika.
Describing Rivers people as hospitable and accommodating, Ibas encouraged corps members to serve selflessly and leave lasting legacies in their primary places of assignment.
“See Rivers State as your home and be a source of joy to your host community,” he said.
In his remarks, NYSC State Coordinator, Mr Moses Oleghe, commended the state government for donating 1,000 new mattresses and for its commitment to upgrading camp infrastructure.
However, he raised concerns about flooding caused by heavy rainfall, particularly in the camp market, which he described as a recurring issue affecting camp activities.
“We appeal to the state government to urgently provide a lasting solution to the problem,” Oleghe said.
He also advised corps members to embrace their postings and use the service year to build leadership, communication, problem-solving, and technical skills.
A total of 1,902 corps members , 811 males and 1,091 females, successfully completed the three-week orientation course.
