Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State is expected to speak on ‘faith, leadership, and governance’ towards preparing the next generation for ethical leadership in Nigeria during the third convocation and sixth founder’s day ceremony of the Precious Cornerstone University (PCU), Ibadan.
Addressing a press conference earlier today (Wednesday, November 6), the Vice Chancellor Prof Timothy Adeyemo said the topic of the convocation lecture, ‘Faith, Leadership, and Governance: Preparing the Next Generation for Ethical Leadership in Nigeria, which Makinde will speak on had been carefully chosen because of its relevance to the quest for ethical leadership recruitment processes, which are currently in deficit in Nigeria.
Adeyemo said the lecture would come as part of the grand finale of the programme on Monday November 11, 2024, which has been named the Founders Day Award of Degrees and Prizes, and Conferment of Honorary Degrees (Honoris Causa) on deserving individuals.
“Dignitaries from across Nigeria and abroad, including prominent business leaders, spiritual leaders, academics and government officials are expected to attend,” the vice chancellor added, enthusing that “their presence would underscore the strong support PCU enjoys in its mission to shape future leaders.”
Adeyemo disclosed that a total of 118 students would be graduating in the third convocation, disclosing that out of that number, 14 made first-class honours, 65 second-class upper, 37 second-class lower while two made third class.
He noted that the best graduating student for the set (Legacy Set) Mr. Abraham Akinwole, from the Department of Physical Sciences (Physics and Electronics), Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences, made a CGPA of 4.98.
According to Adeyemo, the week-long programme would also feature community service, a public lecture by an official of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on ‘Combating Drug Abuse among Nigerian Youths: A Growing Concern’, an exhibition and a novelty football match, among others.
