The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs has extended condolences to the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria over the passing of Pope Francis.

In a letter signed by its Deputy National Legal Adviser, Imam Haroun Muhammad Eze, also copying the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria CAN, the Council described the late Pope as a humane, humble, and fair-minded servant of God.

The NSCIA noted that the Pope’s final public call for a ceasefire in Gaza reflected his deep commitment to justice and peace.

The Council used the moment to reaffirm its dedication to interfaith dialogue, peace, and mutual understanding across religious divides.

It prayed for comfort for the global Catholic community and guidance as they prepare to elect a new leader.
