The Akwa Ibom State Government has refuted claims linking Governor Umo Eno to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) seizure of a Lagos property belonging to his predecessor, former Governor Udom Emmanuel.
The government delivered its response on Sunday, September 13, 2026, through an official press statement issued in Abuja by the State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Aniekan Umanah.
The press release was in direct reaction to claims made in an online video circulating earlier in the week by Senator John James Akpanudoedehe, the 2027 governorship candidate for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Akwa Ibom State.
In the viral clip, Senator Akpanudoedehe alleged that Governor Umo Eno personally reported his predecessor to the anti-graft agency, triggering the forfeiture of the Lagos residence.
Describing the claims as “false, reckless, and without foundation,” Dr. Umanah stated that the governor has never petitioned the EFCC against anyone. ”For the avoidance of doubt, Governor Umo Eno has never reported anyone to the EFCC.
I make bold to say that I have never reported anyone, talk more of my predecessor in office, to the EFCC. I stand to be challenged or contradicted,” Dr. Umanah quoted Governor Eno as stating.
The state government urged political actors to refrain from spreading falsehoods aimed at inciting public tension or reopening old political rivalries.
It maintained that Governor Eno’s administration remains focused on delivering its ARISE Agenda through infrastructure, education, and healthcare development rather than political vendettas.
