The Kano State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested two suspects and recovered 50 stolen railway sleeper clips following a targeted operation against critical infrastructure vandalism in Kanwa Village, Madobi Local Government Area.

Briefing newsmen in Kano on Thursday, October 22, 2026, the State Commandant of the NSCDC, Commandant Mohamed Hassan Agalama, revealed that operatives cracked down on the syndicate following intelligence regarding the theft and destruction of railway materials within the area.

Commandant Agalama identified 25-year-old Shamsu Isyaku, a resident of Kanwa Village in Madobi Local Government Area, as the principal suspect alleged to have directly vandalised and stolen the track components.

Security personnel also apprehended 40-year-old Shehu Yakubu, hailing from nearby Kanwa Yamma, who is suspected of purchasing and receiving the stolen railway materials. Meanwhile, law enforcement agencies have launched an active manhunt for a third accomplice, identified as Saleh Kanwa, who remains at large.

During the crackdown at the Kanwa Village operational venue, officers successfully recovered 50 railway sleeper clips.

Commandant Agalama noted that the command is intensifying investigation efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspect and recover additional missing railway materials tied to the local rail axis. Upon the conclusion of the ongoing investigation, the arrested suspects will be formally charged in court.

Reaffirming the command’s zero-tolerance stance on public asset destruction, Agalama emphasized that the corps remains steadfast in safeguarding critical national infrastructure, particularly railway networks vital to national growth, economic stability, and public transit.

He issued a stern warning to scrap dealers, buyers, and members of the public against purchasing or receiving stolen public items, cautioning that anyone caught in the trade will face the full extent of the law.

Commending the vigilance of the operating team, the commandant urged local communities to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible intelligence.
