The National Leadership of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially met the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) October 24 deadline to correct and restore the names of its candidates previously omitted from the published candidate list for the upcoming general elections.
The party’s electoral and legal delegates formally handed over all required compliance documents at 3:30 PM on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at the INEC National Headquarters situated along Zambezi Street in the Maitama district of Abuja.
The submission followed a 14-day statutory correction window opened by the electoral umpire under Section 32(2) of the Electoral Act 2026, which allowed political parties to challenge omissions and reconcile candidate credentials before final publication.
Among the key rectifications included in the submission were the details for the party’s Kano State governorship ticket, which features Aminu Gwarzo alongside his deputy running mate, Mustapha Rabiu Kwankwaso.
The party also presented updated documentation, verified primary election result sheets, and digital voter registers to resolve disputes over several federal and state legislative slots across multiple constituencies.
Addressing reporters outside the commission’s headquarters shortly after submitting the files, Comrade Emmanuel Director, National Publicity Secretary of the NDC, emphasized that the party had satisfied all statutory conditions within the stipulated timeframe.
He noted that the party’s legal and electoral teams worked around the clock to compile proof of primary elections and updated membership registers prior to the Saturday deadline, adding that the leadership expects INEC to reflect these changes in its final publication.
Responding on behalf of the electoral commission, Mr. Rotimi Oyekanmi, Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, confirmed receipt of the materials.
He stated that the commission received notifications and rectifications from several political entities, including the NDC, prior to the close of business on October 24, and that the legal and ICT departments are currently reviewing the filings against internal databases before issuing an updated candidates list.
