Renowned human rights lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Femi Falana, is set to deliver the keynote address at the upcoming public screening of LG Billions in the Dark, an investigative documentary highlighting accountability and the prolonged local government leadership crisis in Osun State.
The high-profile event, organized by media platform DevReporting, is scheduled to take place on Thursday, October 29, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 3:30 PM at the Faculty of Arts Theatre, located on the main campus of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) in Akoka.
Supported by the Royal Norwegian Embassy through the Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID), the public gathering will also serve as the official unveiling of the Development Reporting Africa Foundation (DRAF), the non-profit wing of DevReporting dedicated to advancing development journalism and public service accountability across the continent.
LG Billions in the Dark delves into the lingering governance impasse across Osun State’s local government councils, probing its direct consequences on public finance management, institutional integrity, and basic service delivery at the grassroots level.
The screening aims to ignite a national conversation surrounding local government autonomy, civic engagement, and fiscal transparency.
Distinguished leaders from the media, civil society, and corporate sectors will chair the proceedings. Dapo Olorunyomi, Publisher of Premium Times and Chief Executive Officer of CJID, will serve as the Event Chairman, while Engr. Abubakar Isa, Founder and Chairman of Spectrum Engineering Limited, will act as Chief Launcher for the new foundation.
Speaking ahead of the event, Mojeed Alabi, Founder and Executive Director of DevReporting, emphasized that the initiative was designed to bridge the gap between complex public expenditure data and active citizen participation.
According to Alabi, providing clear, investigative insights enables young Nigerians and rural communities to hold local administration accountable and demand responsible stewardship of public funds.
