The Federal Government has secured approximately 150 convictions within the first two days of its latest phase of mass terrorism trials. ​The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), disclosed this on Tuesday while briefing journalists at the Federal High Court in Abuja, where 10 judges are simultaneously presiding over the cases. ​
According to Fagbemi, the current phase commenced on Monday and recorded immediate results, with roughly 150 convictions arising from 160 trials on the very first day. ​”Yesterday, we had about 160 trials. I think about 150 convictions,” the AGF stated. ​
The minister added that proceedings continued swiftly on Tuesday, bringing approximately 300 cases before the courts, with an additional 84 cases expected to be concluded before the end of the day. ​The intensive courtroom proceedings are scheduled to run through Thursday. This marks the fourth round of mass terrorism trials undertaken since the inception of the current administration.
The initiative serves as a broader government effort to clear the backlog of terrorism cases and fast-track accountability for insurgency and armed criminal networks.
​Fagbemi appealed for patience from the public as the complex legal exercise continues, reinforcing that the mass trials signal the administration’s zero-tolerance policy for terrorism, alongside its commitment to justice and the rule of law.
