The Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC) has rescheduled the State’s council elections, earlier scheduled to take place this October 5.
According to the Commission’s Chairman, Prof. Christian Ngwu, the elections will now take place on September 21, a few weeks earlier than originally planned.
Disclosing the new date for the polls in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu on Thursday (yesterday, August 29), Ngwu said the Commission was acting in compliance with the state High Court judgment, delivered by Justice C.V.C. Ezeugwu on August 27, compelling the Commission to conduct council elections on/or before September 21.
Accordingly, the Commission amended the activities and timetable for the polls after engaging electoral stakeholders in the wake of the court judgment, Ngwu further disclosed.
