The governorship candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Olajide Esan, has pledged to dismantle elitist governance and return power directly to the people if victorious in the upcoming Osun State gubernatorial election scheduled for Saturday, August 15, 2026.
​Esan made the declaration during a major campaign rally and media briefing held on Tuesday, August 11, at the AAC Secretariat in Osogbo, Osun State.
​Speaking before a gathering of party supporters, civil society groups, and journalists, Esan criticized previous administrations, describing current political structures in the state as “perversion in the disguise of leadership.”
Esan emphasized that an AAC administration will prioritize youth employment, economic recovery, and genuine local government autonomy. The candidate criticized rival parties for shunning public debates and failing to offer concrete policy solutions to Osun’s growing unemployed population.
AAC promised a grass-root, participatory budgeting model where local government areas directly influence public spending priorities.
​Reinforcing the candidate’s platform, Muideen Yekeen, the AAC deputy governorship candidate, emphasized that the party represents a distinct alternative for the electorate.
​”The political elite have consistently shortchanged the hardworking residents of Osun State. On August 15, our people have a historic opportunity to reject leadership that serves only a select few and elect a government that answers directly to the public interest.” said Muideen Yekeen.
​The Director of Media and Publicity for the AAC Osun Campaign Organization, Tunde Bakare, confirmed that the campaign will wrap up its ward-level voter mobilization tours on Thursday, August 13, at 6:00 PM, ahead of the official INEC campaign deadline.
​With 3,763 active polling units across all 30 Local Government Areas, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has cleared six political parties for the ballot. The AAC leadership urged voters to turn out in large numbers on August 15 to exercise their franchise peacefully and safeguard their votes.
