The Department of State Services (DSS) has released a Kaduna State farmer and herder, Nura Idris, after an internal investigation reportedly found no evidence linking him to Boko Haram.
The review panel reportedly examined all available records, intelligence reports, and investigative findings before concluding that the allegations against Idris could not be substantiated. Based on the outcome of the review, the agency approved his immediate release.
Beyond regaining his freedom, Idris was also given ₦3 million by the DSS to assist him with urgent personal needs and support his efforts to rebuild his life after spending months in detention. The agency further pledged to help him revive his business as part of efforts to ease his reintegration into society.
Security sources disclosed that Idris, a native of Soba Local Government Area of Kaduna State, was initially arrested in Suleja, Niger State, in June 2024 by another security agency over suspected links to terrorist activities.
He was later transferred to the custody of the DSS for further investigation, where he remained while security operatives continued their inquiries into the allegations.
Following an extensive review of the case, the DSS reportedly found no credible evidence to justify his continued detention, prompting the agency’s leadership to authorize both his release and the financial support package.
Speaking after regaining his freedom, Idris expressed appreciation to the DSS leadership for clearing his name and providing assistance to help him restart his life.
He said the ₦3 million would enable him to begin rebuilding what he had lost during his detention. Idris also stated that he was treated humanely throughout his stay in DSS custody and prayed for God’s blessings upon the agency’s Director-General and its personnel.
His father, Yusuf Idris, who received him after his release, also thanked the DSS for freeing his son and extending financial support to the family.
He assured the agency that the money would be put to good use as Idris works to rebuild his livelihood.
