Thirteen people sustained varying degrees of injury on Friday, November 6, 2026, following a severe road traffic crash along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State.

The accident occurred around 10:15 AM near the Sagamu interchange axis of the busy highway. According to eyewitnesses, a commercial Mazda bus carrying 18 passengers lost control at high speed after experiencing a sudden mechanical fault, causing it to veer off its lane and ram directly into a concrete median barrier.

Emergency response teams, including officers from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), arrived at the scene shortly after the crash to clear the obstruction and rescue trapped commuters.

Confirming the incident, the Public Education Officer for the FRSC Ogun State Command, Chief Route Commander Florence Okpe, stated that excess speed and loss of vehicle control were the primary causes of the crash.

”A total of 18 individuals, 10 males and 8 females, were involved in the crash. Thirteen of them suffered injuries of varying severity, while five passengers escaped unhurt. Fortunately, no fatalities were recorded at the scene,” Okpe said.

Babatunde Akinbiyi, the Chief Relations Officer of TRACE, also confirmed the details of the rescue operation. He noted that the injured victims were immediately evacuated to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH) in Sagamu for urgent medical treatment.

”Traffic was temporarily disrupted along the corridor, but our personnel, alongside sister agencies, managed to tow the wreckage off the main bowl of the expressway to restore normal traffic flow,” Akinbiyi added.

Road safety authorities reiterated their warning to commercial drivers to adhere strictly to speed limits and ensure proper routine maintenance of their vehicles before embarking on inter-state trips.
