The fourth edition of Africa’s flagship technology summit, Moonshot 2026 by TechCabal, officially opened on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, at the National Theatre in Lagos, Nigeria. Operating under the theme “Courage & Conviction: Building for a New World,” the two-day gathering brings together technology leaders, startup founders, global investors, policymakers, and innovators from across the globe to deliberate on the future of the continent’s digital ecosystem.
The conference, which runs through Thursday, October 29, with daily sessions starting at 9:00 AM West Africa Time, represents a strategic shift for African tech as the sector navigates macroeconomic restructuring, evolving regulatory frameworks, and rapid global advancements in artificial intelligence.
Addressing attendees during the opening proceedings, Olanrewaju Odunowo, Head of TechCabal Insights, contextualized the summit’s theme as a pivot from resilience to active growth. He emphasized that African technology has moved beyond the survival stage following recent global capital realignments.
“Survival was never the ceiling; it was always just the floor,” Odunowo stated. “Moonshot 2026 is where we explore what it looks like when African tech decides to win.” Day 1 of the summit featured extensive panel sessions across nine dedicated content tracks, covering critical areas such as startup scaling, governance, digital rights, climate technology, and the future of commerce.
Discussions at the Startup Stage focused heavily on financial discipline and long-term sustainability, where speakers highlighted the imperative of building robust operational systems, sound governance, and strong leadership teams to withstand economic pressures. The conversation around technology design and consumer protection also took center stage.
Chioma Agwuegbo, Executive Director of TechHerNG, delivered a key address warning founders and developers against prioritizing rapid scaling at the expense of user safety. She urged technology companies to embed fundamental protections directly into their platforms, asserting that platforms must not overlook the digital rights and online safety of women, children, and vulnerable groups.
The conference features a prominent roster of policy leaders and industry executives, including Dr. Emomotimi Agama, Director-General of Nigeria’s Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC); Olugbenga Agboola, Founder and CEO of Flutterwave; and Emmanuel Lubanzadio, Africa Lead at OpenAI.
Key sessions throughout the event focus on navigating regulatory structures, accelerating homegrown financial infrastructure, and leveraging emerging tech to drive cross-border trade. In addition to mainstage discussions, the event incorporates curated side sessions, investor match-making rooms, and the TC Battlefield startup pitch competition.
The summit concludes on Thursday evening with specialised workshops and policy roundtables aimed at defining actionable roadmaps for Africa’s digital expansion.
