The Federal Fire Service (FFS), Gombe State Command, successfully contained a fire outbreak at the staff quarters of the Gombe Media Corporation (GMC) on Saturday, September 19, 2026, saving property estimated at ₦20 million.
The blaze, which affected a residential building within the corporation’s staff quarters, destroyed property worth approximately ₦6 million before firefighters brought it under control. No casualties or loss of lives were recorded in the incident.
According to an official statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Fire (ASF) Muazu-Bashir Musa, the command received a distress call regarding the incident at 4:06 PM.
In response, an FFS 215 Multipurpose Water Tender was dispatched from the ATM Fire Operation Base at 4:10 PM, arriving at the scene by 4:25 PM.
The firefighting operation was led by Deputy Superintendent of Fire (DSF) Ali Kidams, with Inspector of Fire (IF) Adamu Babayo driving the water tender alongside the operational crew. The emergency team moved swiftly to contain the inferno, preventing it from spreading to adjoining residential buildings and saving multi-million Naira property from destruction.
The operation was supported by personnel from the FFS 256 Mega Park Fire Station, the Gombe State Fire Service, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
Preliminary investigations revealed that the outbreak was likely caused by an electrical fault. Following a thorough inspection to ensure no lingering embers remained, the firefighters officially concluded the operation and departed the scene at 5:28 PM.
ASF Muazu-Bashir Musa praised the residents for their prompt reporting, noting that the timely distress call played a vital role in enabling the firefighters to respond swiftly and minimize the extent of the damage.
