At least 1000 former members of the People’s Democratic Party who defected from the party in the run-up to the last general elections in the state have returned to the party.
The returning members are largely coordinators in their units in the seven local government areas of the Southern Senatorial district.
Abel Bassey, the leader of the group said a few members of his group came to be received by the leadership of the party before going back to register in their wards with their members.
He said they have seen the great works of the leadership of the party and are encouraged to come back and help rebuild the party in the state.
He added that their work is to mobilize members door to door and ensure the PDP reclaims the state.
Ekpo Ada, the chairman of registration for the southern senatorial district said those in the Secretariat are coordinators across the seven local government areas of the south.
He added that all of them are former members who left the party for various reasons and having tasted the other side have elected to come back on their own.
Receiving the returning members, the state chairman of the People’s Democratic Party in Cross River State Venatius Ikem said Cross River remains a PDP state and the issues that led to their loss in the last general elections were internal.
He disclosed that the issues have largely been resolved and the defection of former members back to the party is a testament to it.
He said the returning members are the first delegation to return when its house is in order and commended them for their exceptional courage to return.
