Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has launched a sharp critical attack on Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 election, describing him as “overhyped, overrated, and clueless”.
Onanuga released the statement on Saturday afternoon, September 12, 2026, via a post on his verified handle on X (@aonanuga1956).
The Presidential spokesperson issued the remarks from the State House in Abuja while reacting to a viral video detailing Obi’s stance on fuel subsidy removal and the management of government proceeds.
The presidential media aide argued that the former Anambra State governor lacks the political track record and national pedigree required to lead the nation, adding that Obi’s former tenure in governance yielded no substantial administrative achievements.
“Peter Obi is simply overhyped and overrated. The guy is clueless. As Anambra governor, he was a spectacular failure,” Onanuga stated. “Now gunning for a higher office, his supporters think he can perform a miracle. How? Governance is not by magic.”
Onanuga further accused the opposition politician of shifting policy stances based on online public sentiment, asserting that Obi prioritizes social media popularity over structured national planning.
“A wannabe national leader must have a governance pedigree, which Peter lacks. He changes his positions like a chameleon, and his worldview is dictated by his mob on social media,” Onanuga added.
Neither Peter Obi nor the official media spokespersons for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) campaign organization have formally issued a response to Onanuga’s statements as of Saturday evening.
