The Lagos State Chapter of Ohanaeze Ndigbo has reinforced its alignment with the apex leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide under President-General Senator John Azuta-Mbata, rolling out strict administrative sanctions against factional actors to safeguard organizational integrity.

The decisive resolution was finalized following an extraordinary General Assembly convened at 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at the Old School Hall, National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos. The session brought together local government chairmen, traditional council executives, and key socio-cultural stakeholders to address recent internal friction and solidify the chapter’s position.

Presenting the assembly’s official communique, Chief Robert Obasi, Secretary-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos State, made it clear that the state branch will strictly adhere to constitutional authority and judicial orders:

The General Assembly formally suspended three prominent members identified as key instigators of recent derogatory media campaigns against Senator Azuta-Mbata. They have been barred from all official gatherings and local government activities until an unreserved public apology is tendered to the Global Executive Council.

Rejecting parallel electoral attempts, the assembly affirmed that any upcoming Lagos State leadership election will strictly be conducted under the direct supervision, authority, and constitutional oversight of the national headquarters in Enugu.

Reaffirming compliance with legal directives, the assembly resolved that Chief Robert Obasi alongside current state officers and sitting LGA Chairmen will continue running daily operations under a subsisting status quo ante bellum court order until pending legal matters are determined.

Speaking to newsmen following the assembly, Chief Everest Ozonweke, Southwest Regional Coordinator and Special Assistant to the President-General, stressed that firm administrative discipline is necessary to protect the wider unity drive across the region.

”We have systematically brought stability to our structures across Ondo, Osun, and Ogun states. This decisive step in Lagos ensures that parallel factions do not derail the overarching peace initiative championed by Senator Azuta-Mbata.”

Echoing these sentiments, Prince Ubochi Ubochi, Secretary of the Traditional Council’s Reconciliation Committee, reiterated that while the chapter remains open to genuine peace talks, attempts to undermine constituted authority will no longer be entertained.
