Transport union operations in Osun State have been thrown into disarray following an immediate shutdown order targeting the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) across all state-managed motor parks.
​Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, handed down the directive on Thursday, July 23, 2026, during an emergency State Security Council session convened at the Government Secretariat in Osogbo to address rising factional clashes within the transport sector.
​Through a press statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, the government made it clear that while commercial transport services remain operational for commuters, union officials are strictly barred from motor park administration and revenue generation.
NURTW presence and activities are completely banned across motor parks in all 30 Local Government Areas of the state. Union members are legally prohibited from collecting dues, ticket fees, or park tariffs from commercial drivers.
Security personnel have explicit orders to apprehend and prosecute any individual attempting to enforce union authority or operate as an executive in the parks.
A joint Rapid Response Squad (RRS) consisting of Police, Military, DSS, NSCDC, and Amotekun Corps officers has been deployed to ensure full compliance at key transport hubs.
​Governor Adeleke cautioned that the measure was strictly designed to protect public safety and prevent violence, not to disrupt daily commercial transport.
​”I hereby direct the Police and other security agents to stop all activities of the union in all our parks across the state. I am not saying you should close the parks, but you should not allow anyone to operate in the parks in the name of the union. Anyone found contravening this order should be arrested for possible prosecution for disturbance of public peace.” Governor Ademola Adeleke instructed.

The security briefing was attended by high-ranking officials from the Nigeria Police Force (State Command and Zone 11), Department of State Services (DSS), the Armed Forces, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and the Amotekun Corps.
​Commanders assured the governor that joint security teams will maintain a continuous presence across major motor parks in Osogbo, Ede, Ilesa, and Ile-Ife to enforce the ban and maintain public safety.
