The Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abass, has directed that full military honours be accorded to the late retired Commodore Bethel Chukwuma Adogu during his final interment, scheduled for Friday, October 16, 2026, in his hometown in Anambra State.
​The announcement was made in an official statement issued on Friday, October 9, by the Director of Naval Information, Commodore Aiwuyor Adams-Aliu, at the Naval Headquarters in Abuja.
​According to the burial arrangements released by the Nigerian Navy, the funeral rites will commence on Thursday, October 15, 2026, with a Service of Songs at the Naval Dockyard Officers’ Mess, Victoria Island, Lagos, starting at 5:00 PM.
​The body will subsequently be moved to his hometown of Ihiala, Anambra State, where the final funeral ceremonies will take place on Friday, October 16, 2026. Commendation & Burial Service will take place at St. Martin’s Catholic Church, Ihiala, Anambra State, at 10:00 AM.
The deceased’s family compound in Ihiala immediately following the church service, where full military honours, including a ceremonial gun salute, flag presentation, and the sounding of the Last Post, will be rendered by a naval honour guard.
Reception will follow at the St. Martin’s Primary School Field, Ihiala, immediately after the interment.
​Speaking on behalf of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Commodore Adams-Aliu highlighted Commodore Adogu’s distinguished service to the nation, describing him as an officer who demonstrated exceptional leadership, discipline, and commitment throughout his career in the Nigerian Navy.
​”Vice Admiral Idi Abass has directed all relevant naval commands and units to ensure a seamless execution of military honours fitting for a senior officer who rendered invaluable service to the maritime defense of our nation,” Adams-Aliu stated.
​Naval officers, government dignitaries, community leaders, and well-wishers are expected to attend the rites in Anambra State to pay their final respects to the late senior officer.
