Kogi varsity overhauls campus security, appoints ex-CSP Ayegba as new security Chief

The Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU) Anyigba has approved a comprehensive restructuring of its security system and appointed retired CSP, Israel Ayegba, as the new Chief Security Coordinator, (CSC).

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Salisu Usman, in a statement on Friday in Lokoja, issued by
Uredo Omale,  the Public Relations Officer of PAAU, said the appointment is with immediate effect.

The appointment followed the adoption of the Report of the Committee on the June 11 Security Breach, at the University Management’s 403rd Regular Meeting on June 29.

The university management said the restructuring implements the Committee’s recommendations to strengthen intelligence gathering, improve security coordination, and prevent future breaches on campus.

CSP Ayegba is only the second Chief Security Coordinator appointed in PAAU’s history, after retired Maj. M. J. Adama.

Consequently, the PAAU Chief Security Officer (CSO), Mr Emmanuel Attah, will now report directly to the CSC on all day-to-day security matters.

The new CSC is to develop a comprehensive security framework, advise Management on policies and strategies, coordinate operations, and ensure greater efficiency in the institution’s security system.

The VC said Ayegba would bring over 35 years of distinguished service in the Nigeria Police Force in intelligence, crime prevention, and security administration.

He said Ayegba’s experience would enhance security through intelligence-led policing, proactive surveillance, stakeholder engagement, and collaboration with security agencies.

The VC reaffirmed Management’s commitment to reforms to safeguard lives and property, urged students to shun cultism and criminality, and called for full cooperation with the new security framework.

Ayegba served as DPO in Obajana, Ankpa, Ogorimagongo, Wukari, Gembu and Karim Lamido, and as Criminal Records and Intelligence Officer at the National Assembly Senate Chamber.

He was also Personal Aide to two former IGPs, Alhaji Aliyu Attah and Alhaji Ibrahim Coomassie, and served in the African Union Peacekeeping Mission in Darfur, Sudan.

He holds a Master’s in Peace and Conflict Studies from Federal University Lokoja, a Bachelor’s in Criminology and Security Studies from Kwararafa University, and a Diploma in Public Administration.
