THE Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, has commended the female U-17 national football team, the Flamingos, on their qualification for the first-ever FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup final by an African team.
Flamingos soared into history by drubbing Samba Queens of Brazil 3-1, in a match that the dreaded South Americans had no chance. It was the Brazilians’ first loss in the competition in Morocco.
The NDC National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, Esq, in a statement praised the young ladies for their resilience that saw them rising from a 2-1 loss to Poland in their opening game at the competition to demolishing opponents.
You did our country proud. Your victories have lifted Nigerians from the hunger, poverty, and sadness that the ruinous policies of the ruling party has imposed on them.
The journey to the final was impressive and deep. The 3-1 defeat of two-time U17 champions, DPR Korea in the group stage, was DPR Korea’s first loss in eight years. Then, the Flamingos dealt with a line up of South Americans – Mexico 2-1 in the Round of 16, Venezuela 1-0 in the quarter-finals then Brazil 3-1.
As they prepare for Saturday’s grand final against Japan, the NDC National Publicity Secretary advised the team to focus on the final and bring the Cup home.
