The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Adamawa, Taraba, Gombe, Borno, and Yobe states has officially endorsed Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum as Acting National Chairman. In a statement from Fintiri’s Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou, Governor Fintiri expressed confidence in Damagum’s leadership since he took office.
Fintiri referenced a Federal High Court restraining order, which mandates that Damagum complete the tenure of former Chairman Dr. Iyorchia Ayu unless the court rules otherwise. He commended Damagum for restoring public trust in the party and urged members to respect the court’s decision for the sake of the party and democracy.
The Governor highlighted the PDP’s unprecedented performance in the North East during the 2023 elections, arguing that the region deserves the National Chairman position more than any other part of the North. The court ruling prohibits the PDP’s National Working Committee and related bodies from appointing anyone other than Ambassador Damagum as Chairman.
