Russia and Ukraine have each released 185 prisoners of war in a fresh exchange facilitated by the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Ms Daria Senyushina, Communications Officer at the Russian Embassy in Nigeria, disclosed this in a telephone interview on Saturday.

Senyushina said that 185 Russian servicemen were returned from territory controlled by Ukraine, while 185 prisoners of war from the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) were released in exchange.

According to her, the UAE provided humanitarian mediation that facilitated the return of the Russian servicemen from captivity.

“The returned Russian servicemen are currently in the Republic of Belarus, where they are receiving support and assistance.

“After receiving the necessary psychological and medical care, they will be transferred to the Russian Federation for further treatment and rehabilitation at medical facilities of the Russian Ministry of Defence,” she said.

Senyushina added that the group returned to Russia comprised soldiers, officers and a civilian, many of whom had been held in captivity since 2022.
