Governor Ahmed Aliyu on Sunday declared that the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sokoto State is intensifying efforts to consolidate support at the grassroots, describing it as the foundational tier of politics capable of determining electoral outcomes.
The governor made the declaration at the International Conference Centre, Kassarawa, during a joint maiden meeting with local government chairmen and councillors. The meeting, he said, was convened to strengthen unity of purpose and deepen commitment to party affairs across the state’s grassroots structures.
Aliyu emphasised that grassroots governance and vibrant party structures remain central to the APC’s political strategy and service delivery drive in Sokoto State.
“We will not ignore the grassroots people. The grassroots level is our stepping stone for any strides,” he said.
According to him, political success is rooted in strong engagement at the ward and local government levels, where the electorate directly interacts with government policies and programmes. He urged party leaders at the local level to remain committed to mobilising support and maintaining close ties with constituents.
The governor also charged council chairmen and councillors to prioritise good governance and ensure that development projects reach rural communities, noting that performance at the grassroots would reinforce public trust in the party.
Aliyu further stressed the need for unity within the party, calling on members to put aside differences and work collectively toward consolidating the APC’s influence in the state.
He assured attendees that his administration would continue to support local government councils in delivering essential services, adding that effective collaboration between the state government and grassroots leaders would strengthen both governance and party cohesion.
The meeting marked what party officials described as a renewed drive to reposition the APC in Sokoto through structured engagement and grassroots-focused strategies.
